Poetry: 1 Poem by Linda M. Crate

no game to be played

vulnerable, weak
i believed that his intentions
were good

didn't perceive
that he would force my hand
down his pants

with such ease that one would think
he were tying his shoes,
and i remember how i recoiled and his rage

until i told him about the ex
that tried to steal my flowers
didn't see himself as the same monster

maybe he believed that taking advantage
of a girl who was battling her demons
was fair game—

but there's nothing fair about games
someone always loses something,
and i was not a game to be played but a

heart that was asking for assistance
out of the dark not into the black
abyss beneath his clothes.
